When legendary gay icon Miss Britney Spears told us to go hard or go home on her 2013 hit single, she had a point: if you want a hot body (or a Bugatti, apparently) you better work – bitch! Although we tend to think everybody and every body are perfect the way they are, it’s not uncommon for travellers to look for a way to stay in shape while on vacation. And one thing is certain: Stockholm for sports lovers is a thing!
When exploring the Open City, there are many ways to burn off all those cakes you had during your daily Swedish fika. Here are some of our favourites…
Hit the gym with a personal trainer at the Diplomat
The opulent and seriously lush Diplomat unsurprisingly has some of the finest workout gadgets in all of the Open City. In its in-house gym, all set with quirky design details and exposed brick elements, sportive guests can exercise using state-of-the-art machines by Life Fitness, or make use of the hotel’s very own personal trainer!
When you’re done, head to the yoga room or relax with a five-star massage (you deserved it, right?). There’s also the ‘Retreat’, a super intimate space guests can book for exclusive use, if they’re looking to detox in the sauna. Sporty spices in training can essentially turn a stay at the Diplomat into an all-around care package for their body.
Go for jog on Royal Djurgården
The Open City’s greenest and largest island, Royal Djurgården has so much offer, you could spend an entire vacation here. Though fitness junkies could also just jog past some of the park’s top attractions and take in the sights along the way…
There are plenty of historic monuments and pristine nature along Djurgården’s jogging paths: from Blockhusudden’s Lighthouse to a rather famous tree, Prince Eugen’s Oak. For the best route, start at the popular Vasa Museum and run along the island’s northern coast all the way down to Blockhusudden, where a waterfront café makes for a perfect pit-stop, should you need one after half an hour. And in case you don’t, jog back along Djurgården’s southern coast for some of the best views of Lake Mälaren in all of Stockholm!
Join a dance marathon Moxy-style
Looking for a different kind of workout? We got you. Join Klubb Moxy for some of the finest tunes that will get your body moving all night long! Across Stockholm (and some would say, much of Sweden), Moxy is known for putting on the very best lesbian dance parties, featuring the coolest DJs!
But don’t worry, only because Moxy caters to the lesbian market doesn’t mean others aren’t welcome: in fact, their super-inclusive approach to hosting events have made Moxy club nights a proper melting pot for the LGBT+ community, and the parties don’t tend to stop until the early morning – make sure you stay hydrated for this intense workout!
Make use of the incredible facilities at AtSix Hotel
Much like the Diplomat, the super-contemporary five-star AtSix Hotel offers the very latest gym equipment, so guests are sure to get in a workout or two during their stay. Amazingly, AtSix even offers punching bags, uphill running machines and water rowing equipment; which really takes things to the next level.
During the summer months, AtSix hosts exercise and yoga classes on its rooftop with gorgeous views over the Open City for a special treat. And speaking of which, did we mention the hotel is known for providing some of Stockholm’s best Swedish massages in its very own spa? There really is no excuse not to work, bitch!
