To cut a long story short: Stockholm has an extensive offering of spectacular hotels, from the youthfully-quirky to the ultra-chic. But arguably no place to stay in the Open City is as unique as Pop House Hotel. Owned by former ABBA member Björn Ulvaeus, the 49-rooms strong four-star address is a destination in its own right – and that’s not just because it sits within the same building as ABBA The Museum!

Planning a fun getaway to the Swedish capital with your GBF or want to treat your ABBA-loving mum to a spectacular city trip? Here’s all you need to know about fabulous Pop House Hotel!

What’s the atmosphere at Pop House Hotel?

Beyond everything else, the general vibe at the hotel is friendly with a Scandinavian take on understated hospitality. Don’t expect swanky opulence or formality – though that being said, the hotel’s interiors are certainly bright and elegant in a contemporary way. An in-house restaurant serves up delicious sharing platters focusing on Mediterranean cuisine which is beloved by solo travellers and travelling families alike!

Meanwhile, The Glasshouse bar is a popular meeting point where guests become friends as a curated playlist oozes from the speakers (you bet they play an occasional ABBA hit, too…). Ask any former visitor and they’ll tell you what makes Pop House truly fabulous is its devoted and highly accommodating staff!

What are the rooms like?

Accommodation at Pop House ranges from standard doubles to themed suites that truly steal the show. Inspired by ABBA’s history, the hotel’s three music suites pay tribute to everything from the popular Mamma Mia! Musical (ever wanted to sleep in a Greek village?) to memorabilia of the band’s incredible success story: the ABBA Gold Suite is decked in their private gold and platinum records!

Though even a standard double room comes with panoramic windows, Bluetooth speakers, luxurious toiletries by Swedish brand L:A Bruket and, of course, a few design hints at the overall theme of music… Put simply, accommodation here is a perfect blend between comfortable and stylish.

Other than the rooms, why stay here?

There are many reasons one would choose to stay at Pop House, but one certainly stands out: with ABBA The Museum in the same building, you can quite simply pop into one of Stockholm’s most beloved visitor attractions after breakfast and experience all the fun, interactive exhibits before it gets busier in the afternoon!

But it’s not just the museum itself that’s fabulous. With it comes a somewhat more noticeable sense of community between the hotel’s guests, many of whom have chosen to stay here because of their love of ABBA. And so needless to say, it’s easy to meet like-minded souls and make friends around the property, especially when people go for cocktails and beers The Glasshouse bar in the evenings!

Something every visitor should know

Although Pop House Hotel is within walking distance of some of the Open City’s most bustling neighbourhoods, it’s also located on its leafiest island, Royal Djurgården. When staying at the hotel, make sure to make good use of its prime location and stroll around Djurgården’s idyllic, green landscapes or visit some of its many great sights…

For example, there’s the popular Crkus arena which actually belongs to the hotel and hosts concerts, theatre plays and musicals throughout the year – in fact, several of ABBA members Björn Ulvaeus’ and Benny Andersson’s musicals have been performed here. Be rude not to go, if you’re staying at fabulous Pop House anyway, wouldn’t it?
