Chokladkoppen cafe exterior

Chokladkoppen, right in the heart of Stockholm’s old town, Gamla Stan, is one of Stockholm’s most cherished cafés, renowned not only for its exquisite pastries and cosy atmosphere but also for its significant role in the city’s LGBTQ+ history. Established in 1997, it was the first establishment in Stockholm to proudly display the rainbow flag, signalling its commitment to inclusivity and acceptance at a time when this was rare. This bold move marked Chokladkoppen as a sanctuary for the LGBTQ+ community, offering a welcoming space where individuals could gather, converse and celebrate their identities without fear of discrimination. And most importantly, have ‘fika’ – a true Swedish pastime. Over the years, the café has maintained its reputation as a queer-friendly haven, continuing to reflect Stockholm’s progressive values and the enduring spirit of its LGBTQ+ residents and allies.
