When visiting Stockholm, it’s easy to fall into the trap of chasing afters sights: after all, there’s a lot to see and explore around town, and even at night, the city is alive with busy bars and a considerable number of night clubs. But sometimes, it’s best to take a step back and schedule in a breather…

To make the most out of your stay in the Open City, don’t forget to treat your precious self to some R&R. If you’ve started looking into Stockholm places supporting well-being and mindfulness, you’ll no doubt have found yourself spoiled for choice – but for the creme de la creme of wellness in the Swedish capital, simply read on.

The Retreat at Hotel Diplomat

Open from the early hours of the morning until late at night, the Retreat is nothing short of a relaxation haven for guests at the luxurious, five-star hotel Diplomat. The elegant space is only accessible by reservation, and if you book a slot, you’ll have it all to yourself for a heavenly sixty minutes!

Whether you hit the sauna or melt away during a massage and a facial, a trip to the Retreat is perhaps the single most luxurious and exclusive way to unwind in the Open City. We recommend going in the early afternoon, and feasting on the hotel’s super-healthy ‘tea-tox’ afternoon tea afterwards…

Millesgården

Wellness can mean a whole lot of different things, depending on who you’re talking to. For many, something as simple as a leisurely stroll around a beautiful garden can work wonders – if that sounds like you, make sure to head to the gorgeous Millesgården on your next Stockholm trip.

Built in 1908 as the sculptor Carl Milles’ home, the estate is a mere twenty minutes from the city centre, though it feels like a world and a half away. You could always participate in a private tour or check out their changing art exhibitions, though if headspace is what you’re after, wander around the angel statues put on pedestals high above the ground and look out at the Lake Mälaren: things don’t get more peaceful than this!

Royal Djurgården

What, you’ve relaxed in Millesgården and still find yourself craving the outdoors? Best prepare a little hamper and make your way to Stockholm’s ‘green lung’, Royal Djurgården. Locals and visitors alike love the city’s largest and leafiest island for the same reason: it’s an oasis of calm.

Away from its popular attractions, Djurgården remains a vast, natural habitat with scenic lakes, age-old trees and pretty spots to just lie on the grass and let the hours pass by. And just you know, we were dead serious about bringing a hamper: there’s nothing better for our wellbeing than a healthy meal surrounded by birds and bees and all that comes with them!
